Frequently Asked Questions
What is Redbrook Neighbors?
We are a village organization, comprised of volunteers, working together to support older neighbors who are committed to aging, safely and independently, in their own homes. To this end, volunteers provide a number of services to members, such as:
🚙 Transportation :
Driving limitations often limit a person’s well-being and engagement in the community. By offering rides we are able to make a difference. Rides to medical appointments, to grocery and retail stores, to places of worship, to the hair salon or barber are examples of ways we can help you, and help you stay involved in your community.
Our area for transportation services, dependent on our volunteers, is anticipated to generally include Plymouth, Bourne, Wareham, Sandwich, Kingston, Duxbury, and other towns along Route 3 North (to around Hanover).
🏡 Home and Garden:
Some tasks around home are difficult to do by yourself, especially as you age. Help with changing lightbulbs, carrying in groceries, hanging or moving artwork, or fertilizing shrubs in the spring are the kinds of services that can help you feel more comfortable in
your own home.
💻 Technology Assistance:
If you need help with your cell phone, tablet, computer, or setting up your TV (or remote), we have volunteers comfortable providing that kind of assistance. We can also help with things like using Zoom, or navigating the Redbrook portal.
👫 Friendly Calls or Visits:
If you would like a friendly visit to play cards or a game, or to have someone read to you, that can happen, too. And if you have an emergency stay in the hospital, volunteers can help by taking care of your pets or checking on things at home.
What is a “Village”?
-
The “Village” Movement started more than 20 years ago with Beacon Hill Village in Boston.
-
A Village is not a geographical place, rather a Village is a member-driven (volunteers and service recipients), grassroots, non-profit community organization that brings local neighbors together to help one another thrive, remain independent and make new friends as they progress through their retirement years.
-
Today, there are over 250 Villages, 25 of which are in Massachusetts, with many others in development across the country.
